For some reason the first thing that came to mind for “sling” was someone slinging food at someone else. I thought, what better than a naughty sibling slinging a messy meatball at her goody goody sister in a pure white dress?
My husband taught English literature at the Stony Brook School for 11 years and one of his favorite contemporary poets is Geoffrey Hill, who is now at Oxford, I believe. Jake asked me to do a couple portraits of poets he admired so this is one of them. It is made with graphite and ink. The font comes from the front cover of one of Hill’s books.
Commissioned by my husband Jake to put in his classroom, since he admires Blake and taught so much poetry in his English Literature 11 course.
